Shurijo Castle
These are from a day trip Carrick and I took to Shurijo Castle Park. Shuri Castle has been around for a long time, but has been destroyed something like 8 times between fires and battles. It has been restored to it's original glory, which is rare for Okinawa. Most castles here are still in ruins. It was a fun day!

Crazy Cannon Ball Contest
Can you believe it? My husband, the one I have to force to swim, who sits on the beach under the pier in a t-shirt, and only tickles his toes in the water during pool PT, that one... he entered in a cannon ball contest!
We had a contest at the pool for Columbus day. It was a great event with food, DJ, and winners in biggest splash and costume categories. Carrick won for his costume, I think he was inspired by Hugh Heffner...
All the contestants.

My Version of the Owl Bag
This is my most recent Saturday craft. I got the idea from this post :
We've had a fun filled and long weekend. Carrick went golfing with a friend while I worked on Saturday and Sunday. Monday was the annual cannon ball contest at the pool. I worked and Carrick was a contestant. (Pictures will be coming :).
Carrick and I spent today in a castle and shopping. It was a wonderful Tuesday (Carrick has the day off for Columbus day). We're not excited about going back to work tomorrow though :(.

Apron and Craft Desk
My new apron and matching dishtowels. I'm loving this pear fabric!
My new crafting area, which also doubles as dumping grounds for our wallets,
keys, newspapers, and other randomness.
Great cubbies in the side. I'm still looking for storage bins that will fit.
Scissor holder made from recycled can, scrap paper, ribbon, and a button.

Turning Japanese...
This is me in my yukata. My Okinawan friends convinced me to wear one (which wasn't hard I love dress up) and helped me get dressed in it. We all wore them to a festival this weekend. Yukatas are like kimonos but lighter and less formal. It is a lot like a robe, but it has extra fabric on the sleeves and a piece of heavier fabric with a bow that ties around the middle called a obe. They are often worn to festivals and other events. I had so much fun experiencing part of Japanese culture! Pictures of the festival will follow soon!

Wall Art
Sorry it's been so long since I've made a new post... I've been enjoying myself in a tour of the mid-west. I made it to four states in a two week span of shopping, eating, kayaking, visiting, driving, camping, horse back riding... you get the picture.
While in the states I made it to a few craft stores, (Reuniting with Hobby Lobby was great!) and picked up some supplies for projects I've been wanting to do. I've been seeing paper banners on a few craft sites and wanted to make one with our last name. I found the letter cut-outs at a scrap booking store and instantly knew they'd be perfect.
I found the picture frames at the same store and knew I wound find a use for them somewhere. The gold ones were originally a bright green color so I painted them. I think they look great together. Now I just need a bench or table and our entry way decor with be complete.
