I know it has been a terribly long time since I've updated this, and I'm not quite sure if anyone still reads it.... but if you are reading this, here is an update.
Carrick and I are back in Okinawa after visiting family in Iowa. We had a great time and it was nice to see everyone and recharge. I must admit it was nice being away from the military. I have forgotten my ID card three times since we've been back because I was out of the swing of always having it on me and showing it everywhere I went. Last night we were reminded of some new rules and how living here means giving up some personal liberties. One of our friends was married yesterday, and we wanted to go out and celebrate. We were cut short by a new order requiring us to be out of clubs and bars at midnight. It is a give and take though. We are lucky to get the experience to live in a foreign country and we take the good with the bad.
We are looking forward to the next step in Carrick's career and excited to see where that takes us. He will be getting a new job in the Marine Corps soon and that may mean a location change in the next 6 months or so. As always I'm just along for the ride. I have been very fortunate to find an online college that is perfect for our transient lifestyle, and how to be finished with a teaching degree in two years.

Rainy Days
The rainy season has officially started. It has been raining for three days now, and will probably continue for the next week. I don't mind it though, I like rainy days, especially when I can curl up on the couch with a movie. Rain always makes me want to have soup too. I think I'm going to make some cheesy potato soup today.
I've completed the quilt I was working on in the last post, and another patchwork pillow project. Yoshi finally got a hair cut too. He's been acting even more crazy since we brought him home from the groomers... jumping everywhere and being hyper. We're not sure if they gave him something, or maybe his sanity is contained in his hair, and now it's all gone. Perhaps he's just excited that he can see the world again as his hair is no longer in his eyes all the time.

I'm back!

Last week was Girl Scout Camp here on Okinawa. I'm so proud of myself for putting this huge thing together, and I can't begin to express the releif I'm feeling now that it's over. I had such a great time and I'm very glad I did it. I had many girls come up to me and tell me how much fun they had and thank me for putting camp together. That is what makes it all worth it!
We had a 4 day camp for Brownie Girl Scouts, a horse camp for Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts, an adventure camp for Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts, and a camp for Junior and Cadettes where they got to do whatever they wanted! Each session was great!
Camp was at White Beach, a Navy port-of-call and recreational area. They have cabins and campers that the girls stayed in. The staff was amazing and helped us with every request. I can't wait to go back with Carrick and rent a cabin for a weekend get-away.

The Best Slides in the World!
So, I want to share with you all something that I think is super cool. It makes me wish that I grew up on this wonderful island. But just because I'm already grown does not mean I won't still enjoy myself... I'm talking about the best slides in the world! They are super tall roller slides. Instead of just being a flat metal sheet on the bottom they have a series of rolling metal rods that let you go much faster down the slide. It's recommended to take a piece of card board though because the rods can get pretty hot with all the friction. Cardboard also gives you a smoother ride. These would never fly with all the safety rules in U.S. playgrounds, but this is the country where car seats are only a suggestion...
